• Cellar Price R 310 | Wine Club Price R 248 R1860 per case of 6 bottles PROF is the cornerstone of the KV range. This blend comprises 60% Cinsaut and 40% Pinot Noir. The inspiration for this wine is an effort to find out what Professor Abraham Perold had in mind when he created Pinotage by crossing Cinsaut and Pinot Noir in 1925. It was at Welgevallen (University of Stellenbosch research farm) that Prof Perold cultivated the first Pinotage vines. Prof Perold never had the opportunity to taste the first bottled wine made from this grape variety, and with the crafting of this wine Wynand Lategan tried to discover the purpose of Prof Perold’s creation. Prof has a prevailing sense of freshness and lightness. The fruit spectrum is leaning mostly towards the tangy sour cherry and red fruits. A soft and delicate palate with a fundamental complexity rounds it off seamlessly. Only 1 396 bottles was produced of this wine. Food Suggestions: Tomato based pork pappardelle, Steak tartare with capers and Worscestersauce, Crispy and salty pigstails, Duck parfait, Spicy charcuterie and fruit platter. Cellar Price R 310 | Wine Club Price R 248 R1680 per case of 6 bottles The name DOK is mostly used in the Afrikaans language as a term of endearment for the word doctor. DOK is named after the legendary rugby giant, Dr Danie Craven, who regularly visited Lanzerac with his dog, Bliksem, in tow. DOK is a Malbec harvested from a single vineyard block situated on Lanzerac in the Jonkershoek Valley. This flavour packed wine showcases notes of mulberry, fruit pastilles and liquorice on the nose that follows through to a juicy palate. The emphasis is on fruit, but soft, polished tannins. The acidity adds to the complexity and balance of this wine. Food Suggestions: The DOK 2019 can be enjoyed with dishes such as wild mushroom risotto, Norwegian meatballs with a spicy cream sauce or Malbec-marinated savoury smoked duck with garlic and honey. • R300 per bottle | R1800 per case of 6 (For each bottle sold by Lanzerac Wine Estate, we will donate R100 to the Protégé Programme.) Aliquid Novi is the unique Pinotage wine from the iconic Perold Vineyard on Mostersdrift, home of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS). The Name: The label used for the 2021 vintage refers to the dictum of Pliny the Elder, a Roman philosopher of the first century: ex Africa semper aliquid novi (“something new always comes out of Africa”). So Aliquid Novi (’something new’) quite naturally presented itself as very fitting description of the wine. The Vineyards: The Perold Vineyard is situated in the heart of Stellenbosch on the historic Mostertsdrift, one of the first farms in the district dating back to 1683. The present owner is Stellenbosch University which rents the property to STIAS. It is the southernmost vineyard in the Jonkershoek Valley district. The wine produced from the Perold Vineyard is unique in several respects. In line with the experimental character of STIAS, the 24 double rows of vines were planted in a half-moon pattern to expose the vines to different sun positions through 180 degrees. In addition, a new double-trellis system was designed for the vineyard. The Wine: The result is an elegant, lighter wine of pronounced character. It is clear that this descendant takes more from the Pinot Noir parent than the Hermitage lineage. Not heavy or overwhelming, but nuanced and complex, more reminiscent of a Pinot, the colour is nonetheless deep and the nose typical. The 2015 vintage was the first to be released. Initially, several winemakers were used and various styles were tested while the vines were settling in. After ten years the vineyard is well established and, since 2017, has been managed by Lanzerac, which also makes and markets the wine. With only 1000 bottles released each year this wine is destined to become a collector’s item. More on this innovative wine HERE Aliquid Novi Pinotage 2021

Grapes from this single block, planted in 1953 on Bellevue, arrived in bins at the Lanzerac Cellar where the bunches were sorted and destemmed and then the berries were sorted again before a light crush. Fermentation took place in small open fermenters with punch downs four times a day. After fermentation, the wine was racked and skins were pressed in small baskets. Maturation took place over 16 months in 225 litre French Oak barrels. Age of the barrels range from 2nd fill to 4th fill. The privileged minority that recently tasted one of the few remaining bottles of the original 1959 Lanzerac Pinotage describe the wine with notes of tobacco and tea, together with vibrant black berry and cherry fruit. Harmonious and expressive with maturity but also freshness. Sixty years later the re-incarnation of this wine display some of the same characteristics as the original. Red- and black berries with hints of tea-leaf combined with an earthiness and finishing with soft silky tannins speaks to its ancestors namely Pinot Noir and Cinsaut.
