Tim Atkin (MW), British Master of Wine, and award-winning wine journalist released his annual South African Wine Report, which has become a significant indicator of wine quality in South Africa.

South Africa is making some of the best wines in its history. The Cape Winelands contributes to SA being the world’s eighth-largest wine producer and the fifth-biggest in the New World after the USA, Argentina, Australia and Chile.

We are incredibly proud of these achievements and are delighted to announce that three of our Lanzerac wines received medals of excellence having attained over 90 points in the 100-point assessment.

Selected from a line-up this year of 1 381 wines, top achievers of Lanzerac were;

Lanzerac Keldermeester Versameling Bergpad Stellenbosch 2018 91
Lanzerac Mrs English Single Vineyard Chardonnay Stellenbosch 2019 93
Lanzerac Pionier Pinotage Stellenbosch 2018 91

TIM ATKIN MW TASTING NOTES:

Lanzerac Mrs English Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Stellenbosch (13.5%)
Very much a modern style of Chardonnay, this tasty white hails from a single-vineyard parcel and was naturally fermented, Burgundy-fashion, with wild yeasts. Tangy, bright and refreshing, it has notes of lemon butter and nutmeg, with pear and citrus zest and deftly handled 40% new wood. 2021-25

Lanzerac Keldermeester Versameling Bergpad 2018

Stellenbosch (14%)
Pure Pinot Blancs can be counted on the digits of one hand in South Africa, but the wineries who make them tend to do a good job of expressing the variety. This is a case in point, a soft, supple, pear and beeswax white, with good concentration and leesy weight. 2020-23

Lanzerac Pionier Pinotage 2018

Stellenbosch (14.5%)
Ambitiously priced, without a doubt, but Lanzerac is famous for its Pinotage and has a distinguished history with the variety. Complex, intense and plush, with bags of raspberry and blueberry fruit flavours, stylish, scented oak and the concentration to develop further in bottle. 2022-28
