  • The privileged minority that recently tasting one of the few remaining bottles of the original 1959 Lanzerac Pinotage describe the wine with notes of tobacco and tea, together with vibrant black berry and cherry fruit. Harmonious and expressive with maturity but also freshness. Sixty years later the re-incarnation of this wine display some of the same characteristics as the original. Red- and black berries with hints of tea-leaf combined with an earthiness and finishing with soft silky tannins speaks to their ancestors namely Pinot Noir and Cinsaut.

  • After the First World War, the owner of this beautiful Stellenbosch wine farm renamed it Lanzerac, in honour of the renowned French General Lanrezac. This war veteran was famous for his aggressive attitude and determination during the Aisne-Marne battle in 1918, which marked the series of offensives that finally won the Allied Forces the war. That is where the name Le Général is derived from. This ‘Left Bank Blend”, made from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot, was matured in a combination of new and 2nd fill 300 litre French oak barrels for a period of 20 months. The 4 varietals were individually fermented and matured before careful blending and bottling. The Lanzerac Le Général is a limited barrel selection of the best red wine of the 2022 vintage. This full-bodied Cabernet-based blend announces vanilla and nutmeg spice before a flood of dark berries, cooked plums and blackcurrants assail the palate. PROF
    2026

Original price was: R350,00.Current price is: R280,00.
PROF is the cornerstone of the KV range. This blend comprises 60% Cinsaut and 40% Pinot Noir. The inspiration for this wine is an effort to find out what Professor Abraham Perold had in mind when he created Pinotage by crossing Cinsaut and Pinot Noir in 1925. It was at Welgevallen (University of Stellenbosch research farm) that Prof Perold cultivated the first Pinotage vines. Prof Perold never had the opportunity to taste the first bottled wine made from this grape variety, and with the crafting of this wine Wynand Lategan tried to discover the purpose of Prof Perold’s creation. Prof has a prevailing sense of freshness and lightness. The fruit spectrum is leaning mostly towards the tangy sour cherry and red fruits. A soft and delicate palate with a fundamental complexity rounds it off seamlessly. Only 1 396 bottles was produced of this wine.
