On Thursday, 30 October, the iconic Lanzerac, in Stellenbosch, hosted an intimate afternoon launch in the Private Dining Room to unveil its new coffee-table book Pinotage — The Lanzerac Story. This beautifully designed book celebrates both South Africa’s signature varietal and the estate’s pioneering role in bringing Pinotage to the world.
Guests at the launch — including the creative team behind the publication, members of the media, wine experts, and renowned Pinotage specialists — enjoyed an exclusive tasting of Lanzerac’s Pinotage wines, paired with small plates inspired by recipes featured in the book.
Pinotage — The Lanzerac Story takes readers through a year on the estate in four seasonal chapters, with narrative strands that move between present-tense vineyard life and archival detail, always highlighting the unique relationship between the terroir and the people who work with it and between Lanzerac and Pinotage.
Beyond viticulture and history, the book also celebrates the sensorial world around the glass: evocative wording, recipes from the Lanzerac kitchen and photography that captures earth, cellar, table and time.
Lanzerac’s General Manager, Emile Langehoven, said at the launch: “Our relationship with Pinotage is not a marketing line — it is lineage. This book is our tribute to that custodianship — and to the people who have held the thread of Pinotage at Lanzerac, harvest after harvest.”
The book is now available in limited release at Lanzerac Tasting Room & Deli and Reception.
