South Africa’s Flagship Red Wines Shine at Caroline’s 2026 Red Wine Review
Caroline’s 2026 edition of her annual Red Wine Review, hailed as one of the most prestigious tasting events on the South African wine calendar, took place on Thursday, 30 July, in the Members’ Lounge on the 4th Floor of the DHL Stadium in Green Point, Cape Town.
Hosted by Caroline Rillema of the legendary Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar, this world-class red wine showcase, now in its 38th year, gave wine enthusiasts the rare opportunity to experience an unparalleled line-up of the Cape’s flagship red wines, all under one roof.
The exclusive evening event presented 90 of South Africa’s most awarded and applauded top-level wines. South Africa’s leading red wine producers were each invited to show one exceptional red wine, and guests had the chance to meet and engage with the winemakers themselves.
The Cape’s top-tier Cabernet, Shiraz/Syrah, Merlot, Pinotage, Cinsault, Grenache and various niche varieties, as well as classic Bordeaux-style, Rhône-style and Cape blends, were all well represented at this celebrated walk-around tasting. The spacious, glass-fronted Members’ Lounge opens onto a veranda with panoramic views of the stadium and beyond, setting the tone for an exhilarating occasion.
“We are delighted to bring the Cape’s top producers of the finest red wines together once again, providing an opportunity for wine lovers, collectors and sommeliers to mingle with the passionate people behind these phenomenal labels,” said Caroline, whose eponymous stores in Sea Point and Tokai are known internationally as among THE places to go in Cape Town for the very best in wine.
On arrival, each guest received a crystal tasting glass and a detailed list of the wines on show. Attendees could also order from the list at a 15% discount on usual retail prices.
Thank you to everyone who joined Caroline and her team for another EPIC evening of exceptional red wines!
