Elizabeth Katherina English bought the farm Schoongezicht in 1920 for £18 000, subsequently renamed the farm ‘Lanzerac’ and transformed it during her nine years of ownership into one of the most modern wineries in the Cape\. This wine is a tribute to this formidable lady\.

Sourced from a single vineyard in the Jonkershoek Valley, the Mrs English 2025 is a complex wine with an abundance of citrus flavours on the nose, a full palate and lingering aftertaste\. Great care is taken during the blending process to ensure a wine with impeccable balance, character, poise and deliverance\.

After the First World War, the owner of this beautiful Stellenbosch wine farm renamed it Lanzerac, in honour of the renowned French General Lanrezac\. This war veteran was famous for his aggressive attitude and determination during the Aisne\-Marne battle in 1918, which marked the series of offensives that finally won the Allied Forces the war\. That is where the name Le Général is derived from\.

This ‘Left Bank Blend”, made from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot, was matured in a combination of new and 2nd fill 300 litre French oak barrels for a period of 20 months\. The 4 varietals were individually fermented and matured before careful blending and bottling\.

The Lanzerac Le Général is a limited barrel selection of the best red wine of the 2022 vintage\. This full\-bodied Cabernet\-based blend announces vanilla and nutmeg spice before a flood of dark berries, cooked plums and blackcurrants assail the palate\. Dark chocolate and hints of smoke is supported by sturdy smooth tannins and an endless finish\.

The Lanzerac Pionier Pinotage is a tribute to the first world’s first bottled Pinotage – a 1959 Lanzerac Pinotage\.

The 2022 Pionier has an excellent deep colour, with typical varietal aromas like ripe, plummy red fruit on the nose and palate\. A big mouth\-feel, complex and velvety pallet and long and lingering aftertaste rounds off this wine perfectly\. Colour extracting took no longer than 2\-3 hours before the juice was left to settle for 48 hours at around 13\-14˚ Celsius\. The clear juice was drawn off the lees and inoculated with a specific commercial yeast strain\. Fermentation was controlled at around 14˚ Celsius and took around 10 days to complete\. \<strong\>Food Suggestions:\</strong\> Enjoy this dry Pinotage Rosé on lazy summer days with a frozen strawberry pavé with a fresh fruit coulis, a prawn, mango and avocado salad or with refreshing watermelon, feta and blackberry skewers\.\</p\>
